SJS announces establishment of the Angela Kirchner Memorial Scholarship
A new need-based tuition scholarship
St. James Catholic School (SJS) in Elizabethtown has announced a new need-based tuition scholarship for the 2022-2023 school year. Established by SJS fifth grade teacher Patty Kirchner and her husband, Paul, the scholarship was set up to honor the memory of their daughter, Angela. The scholarship fund is made possible through a partnership with the Central Kentucky Community Foundation.
“Angela was an avid learner who possessed the kindest heart, the quickest wit and a true passion for children and animals,” Paul and Patty Kirchner said. “She attended Catholic school during her middle school years, and Patty and I thought that a great way to honor her memory was to offer educational opportunities to students at SJS.”
Scholarship assistance from the Angela Kirchner Memorial Scholarship fund will be used to defray the full cost or any portion of the cost of tuition, academic fees and any required items payable directly to SJS. The scholarship will be awarded to a middle school student based on financial need. One scholarship award will be given per year and will continue annually as funds permit.
To qualify for the Angela Kirchner Memorial Scholarship fund, students must be planning to attend SJS for the school year for which they are seeking assistance; must apply for tuition assistance during the Catholic Education Foundation first round, must be qualified to attend SJS based on all other requirements for admission; must be a role model for service within the church and community and must demonstrate a desire and financial need to achieve their educational goals.
Priority will be given to previous recipients of this scholarship if they qualify in subsequent years.
“We are incredibly honored that Patty and Paul Kirchner have chosen to give back to SJS in honor of their dear daughter, Angela, ”SJS Director of Advancement Jennifer Moran said. “As an educator, Patty is an invaluable member of the SJS family, and the establishment of this scholarship will help many bright and determined students excel for years to come. We are also very grateful to the Central Kentucky Community Foundation for their work in making this scholarship a reality for our students.”
