From the Desk of Sr. Marie Hannah
Dear Saint James Parents and Friends,
Greetings in the Lord! We are having a wonderful school year with a calendar full of opportunities for our students. The continued living out of our theme “Follow me” has given much reflection for the first quarter of the year. Each week we practice a virtue related to the following of Christ more deeply and faithfully. At times, I hear anecdotes of how this is lived out during the school day.
During this first month of school, our students have completed our first NWEA MAP assessments with great success. Over the next few months teachers will be learning how to use the data for instruction and student academic growth. The goal, once the implementation occurs this year, is to share the date with our parents. Our teachers continue to provide the best for our students and MAP data is another way to help us know more about what students are ready to learn.
Saint James students and staff welcomed nearly 100 grandparents for our annual Grandparents Day celebration. Faith, food and fellowship were shared at Mass and the reception that followed. We love our grandparents and great-grandparents!
It is time for PTO Candy and Magazine sales to begin! Information will be sent home with all the exciting ways that you can participate to support our PTO who, in turn, support our school.
On Friday, Sept. 20, our 4th-8thgrade students will participate in the first Heartland Book Festival. Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, Hardin County Public Library, and Barnes & Noble Bookstore are sponsoring the event. Dozens of popular and promising authors will be part of this inaugural book festival. Friday is dedicated to students, allowing them to participate in activities such as workshops, purchasing books, and meeting authors for book signing and pictures. It should be a great experience for our students.
Lifetouch will take our school pictures on Tuesday, Sept. 24 this year. Information will come home soon explaining procedures and picture options available with directions for how to order online.
It is hard to believe that report cards and conferences with parents/students and teachers are coming in October. This is always a wonderful opportunity to join as partners in the mission for the education and formation of our children. What a gift it is that we can work together!
Know of my prayers and gratitude as we continue this journey together.
